“Every Scout deserves a trained leader.”
Training: In order to provide a quality program to our Scouts, any adult associated with that program should be trained. BSA Training has two parts: Leadership Training and Supplemental Training. Below are links and/or explanations of the training required for the specific leadership position and the supplemental training required to receive a Tour Permit.

Local Tour Permit Applications:
For any activity requiring a Tour Permit, the two (2) Adult Tour Leaders must be trained in Youth Protection and Risk Zone.
Activity Standards for Tour Permits: Where swimming or boating is included in the program, Safe Swim Defense and/or Safety Afloat standards are to be followed. If climbing/rappelling is included, then Climb On Safely must be followed. At least one person must be trained in CPR from any recognized agency for Safety Afloat and Climb On Safely. At least one adult on a pack overnighter must have completed Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO).Effective for tours on January 1, 2009, at least one adult must have completed Planning and Preparing for Hazardous Weather training.
Training Courses:
Youth Protection, This Is Scouting, Cub Scout Leader Fast Start, Boy Scout Leader Fast Start, Troop Committee Challenge, Trek Safely, Climb On Safely, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, Hazardous Weather, etc. are all accessible online at http://myscouting.org. An account should be set up with your membership number and copies of the completion certificates should be printed for troop and/or Greater Pittsburgh Council verification. These online courses require renewal every two (2) years.
Risk Zone, Cub Leader Specific Training, Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Training, and Boy Scout Outdoor Leadership Skills are offered through Japeechen District. Risk Zone requires renewal every two (2) years. Please note the dates for your applicable training below. All participants need to be pre-registered prior to their training course and will need to bring certificates for their Youth Protection, This Is Scouting, and their applicable Scout Leader Fast Start.
BALOO, Webelos Leader Outdoor, University of Scouting, The Trainer’s Edge and Wood Badge are all offered through Greater Pittsburgh Council and all dates and fees should be arranged directly.
