Units Can Report Good Turn for America Service Projects with Special ID Number

The main goal of Good Turn for America is to communicate the many service projects that are performed throughout the year by Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venturing Crews. The other purposes include: collaborating with organizations to enhance community service efforts ... identifying and cultivating new volunteers ... and showing Scouting's impact on our community -- important information the council will want to share with community leaders.

Good Turn for America invites packs, troops and crews to participate in the initiative's three components:

Food … the council’s 21st Annual Scouting for Food drive to be held during April;

Shelter … assisting Red Cross and The Salvation Army;

Healthy living … daily fitness Scout activities guided by the UPMC Health Plan initiative with the council to promote wellness.

A"TELL US ABOUT YOUR SERVICE PROJECT" instruction card was mailed to all unit leaders with each unit's special ID number earlier last year. This special number is required to log onto the goodturnforamerica.org website.

At the website the designated unit representative will be asked to create a password dedicated for the unit's use. Units not receiving an ID number should call their district’s Activity Committee chairman or district executive.

After a unit enters service project the designated leader will be able to print a certificate to take to the Pittsburgh Scout Shop and purchase Good Turn for America patches and year segments for everyone who worked on the project.

The council will be able to see the totals of unit service projects. The council is especially looking forward to learning about Eagle Scout service projects and unit projects that are conducted throughout the year.
