Boy Scout Advancement as a Venturer
As long as you have earned at least the First Class rank as a Boy Scout, you may continue your Boy Scout advancement in a Venturing Crew.
There are some important differences between this process and the advancement options that are part of Venturing itself, in addition to changes from how the advancement process works in a Boy Scout Troop. The main items to remember are:
- Star, Life, Eagle, and Eagle Palms are Boy Scout advancement and follow all of the requirements in the current Boy Scout Requirements book (No. 33215C or a later revision). Other than as specified in that book, no requirements may be changed for any reason.
- You must have earned at least First Class in a Boy Scout Troop prior to working on Boy Scout advencement as a Venturer.
- Unlike Venturing advancement, all Boy Scout advencement must be completed by your 18th birthday.
- Since there is no Scoutmaster in a Venturing Crew, the requirement for a Scoutmaster conference becomes an Advisor conference.
- The positions of responsibility for Star, Life, and Eagle are changed to include the following positions in the Crew (or Ship):
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Boatswain
- Boatswain's Mate
- Yeoman
- Purser
- Storekeeper
- Boards of Review for Star, Life, and Eagle Palms are made up of 3 to 6 members of the Crew Committee (since there is no Troop Committee). The prohibition against Scoutmasters and Assistants serving on the board also prevents Advisors and Associate Advisors from serving there. Youth members do not serve on these Boards of Review.
- Boards of Review for Eagle Scout follow the procedure set by your district just as they would in a Boy Scout Troop. Contact your District Advencement Chairman for details.
