New Leaders Essentials
Every Scout deserves a trained leader. Are you trained? Are you up to date on the most current methods, policies, and procedures? Being a trained leader actually takes less time than trying to figure it out on your own. Plan to attend “New Leaders’ Essentials Training” on Tuesday, March 4, 7 to 9:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 1840 Ardmore Boulevard, Forest Hills. Contact Karen Liebmann, district training chair, at 412-823-4322 or at liebmanndragon@hotmail.com to let her know you are coming or for more information. Venture Information
All Boy Scouts attending the Merit Badge University on Saturday, March 1 at Carnegie-Mellon University will also be able to learn more about Venturing during the lunch break in the lecture hall. Be sure to plan to attend. Many fun, exciting activities are available for Boy Scouts as Venturers by participating in a Venture Crew along with their troop. A special weeklong Venture Adventure Camp is planned for this summer.

A Herron Hill, area Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Hill House Blakey Center. Scouts from Packs 43, Bethel A.M.E. Church, 659, 639, BJWL Addison Terrace, 948, Miller African Centered Academy, and 93, Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church participated. The event began with an opening ceremony which was led by Derek Riley & Carl Marbury. Then Bill Taylor, Director of Field Services of the Greater Pittsburgh Council, BSA had some encouraging words for the Cub Scouts and leaders.
We had adult volunteers to man the following areas: Registration- Kathleen Bracey of Pack 43 checked that every Scout that was registered to race. Then she sent them to send the race to have their car weighed at Tech Inspection- Francine Bibbins was responsible for weighing all car that raced. Once this was done Scouts were free to go the Pit Area which was manned by Derek Riley, from Packs 639 and 659, Dwayne Rainey and Keith Burke of Pack 43 made sure all racer where able make repairs on their cars, with the spare parts and tools that where available.
The concession stand was run by Wanda Drain of Pack 93. Because of her efforts every one was well fed. The Fun and Games Area kept Scouts who are not racing entertained with video games puzzles and magic tricks. This area was supervised by Carol Bibbens of Pack 43, Gary Malloy and Tiera George of Pack 639. The event was a lot of fun. Thank Matthew Jones of the Hill House and the leaders and Scouting families for helping to make the event a success. |
