DAY CAMP - note the week change!
For a couple of reasons, it has been decided to move back our week of Day Camp to the week of August 3 - 7, 2009.  Please note this change when you are considering your dates at Heritage.  Day Camp will still be held at St. Albert the Great in Baldwin.

Family Friends of Scouting

Contact Bernie Calabro at (412) 882-6565 to make sure that someone will come and make a presentation at your Unit this spring!

The 2009 FOS goal for Steel City is $37,000 - thanks to all who pledged at November's Roundtable - your donations exceeded $6,250 putting us well on our way.  But we need the support of all our Scout familes, so make sure you talk to Bernie!.

District Commissioner's Message
Remember the Scout Law - "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

Have you lived up to that today? We can't exclude anyone! Our District will continue to get stronger once we are "all working together" to deliver the promise! That goes for Packs and Troops and Crews, and leadership at all levels. "No one stands so tall as when they stoop down to help a child."

CAMPING!
It's never to early to start thinking about Heritage!  You'll see some changes and improvements this year.

PACKS - Make sure that you take advantage of the window until January 15 to change your rollover and pick the date(s) that you'll be attending Camp Independence as Cubs and Webelos.  If your Pack didn't have a rollover reservation, you'll be able to sign up after January 15.

TROOPS - Check out the new options at Camp Freedom and Camp Liberty!

100th Anniversary Celebration
In 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate its 100th Annivesary.  We want to make this a HUGE event.  We'll be compiling 3 ideas for a Council-wide activity, and 3 ideas for our own District-wide activities.  Remember, the BIGGER the BETTER!  Contact Kim Krapp at (412) 854-3626 or see her at January's Roundtable to submit your ideas.

 ROUNDTABLE

What could be better than a free training session? All registered adult Leaders are welcome and encouraged to come and learn about what is happening within the District, Council, and Scouting in general, to help your unit stay strong. All Youth Leaders are also invited to attend their own Roundtable, as well as all Order of the Arrow members, for the monthly Chapter meeting.

All Roundtable announcements MUST be provided to District Commissioner Dan Urban (chiefsnipe@comcast.net ) no later than 7 days prior to Roundtable. [You can also bring them to the District Committee Meeting] Then they can be published, and we can also schedule our time accordingly.[Please don't come up to the RT Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting asking to be added to the schedule]  Thanks!

THIS MONTH, YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING WILL BE OFFERED FOR ALL ADULT LEADERS.  If you have a Leader who has not had YPT in the last two years, encourage them to come to Roundtable, especially if they can't complete the online training.  Remember, YPT is required for all Tour Permits!

We hope you know that, although the tradition is for most boys to join a Pack or Troop may be in the Fall, it's never to late to welcome a new Scout to your Unit!  Be on the lookout for friends of your Scouts to become new members.  Make sure to get that paperwork in along with your rechartering!  We are getting closer to our goals!

Order of the Arrow (OA) Update

Please help get the word out to every youth OA member to come to our monthly Chapter meetings at the same time as Roundtable at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. We would like have an OA representative attend from every Troop in the district.   Our January meeting will focus on Winterfest which will be held January 30 – February 1 at Heritage.  We will also discuss Klondike Derby, Family Banquet, and Elections for Chapter Chief.  The January Chapter meeting will also feature an opportunity for fellowship.
