FRIENDS OF SCOUTING

Friends of Scouting is the name given to our annual campaign.  The support for this campaign starts with the gifts of Scouting parents but includes financial support from volunteers, Board members, local businesses and special events such as Luncheons and Golf tournaments.

The Gifts are Greater

The Greater Pittsburgh Council manages a myriad of daily operations to enhance the delivery of services for are youth including, but not limited to:

  • A full professional staff who gives guidance to over 860 packs, troops and crews; new activities that strengthen youth involvement; recruiting and training for more than 10,000 adult-area leaders each year through monthly training roundtables and year-round training courses.

  • Member registrations, camp reservations, parent youth inquiries; monthly reporting and upkeep of nationally recognized Scout Service Center, Flag Plaza, which houses the National Scout Shop.

There are more than 46,000 reasons why you should support Scouting.  Please help us build character in today's youth for a better tomorrow.

  • Annual planning calendars, awards and program kits for numerous outdoor activities; ownership and maintenance of five local camps that serve over 32,000 youths and adults each year.

How Funding is Used

Administration 7%

Camping and Activities 27%

Unit Service 66%

A full 15 percent of our annual operating support depends on the Friends of Scouting Campaign and 95 percent of the dollars received each year is returned directly to the southwestern Pennsylvania communities we serve in the form of programs and services in support of packs, troops and crews.

We need your support and commitment to help us continue to develop bold new activities that attract and retain youth from Wilkinsburg to Waynesburg.

There are many donor levels available.  The Greater Pittsburgh Council can help structure a giving commitment that meets your needs.

How can I make an investment?
To make an investment please see: Contributions

Do You Want to Pay Now or Pay Later?
It takes about $99 each year to foster the mental, physical and moral values of one Scout.  It costs more than $25,000 each year to house one inmate in our prison system.
