Applications available for the experience of a lifetime!
In repsonse to the high level of interest for the Greater Pittsburgh Council's 2007 trip to Philmont, the council's High Adventure Promotion Committee has established procedures for selection to the 2007 Contingent. It is the goal of the committee to provide high adventure opportunities for as many Scouts as possible. Every year there is a high interest in Philmont (and other national high adventure camps) that requirs the committee to establish the following procedures for selections:
| 1. |
All those with interest in joining the 2007 Contingent must complete the “Application for Consideration to join the Philmont Contingent.” Each application must include a refundable deposit of $250. |
| 2. |
Applicants also need to complete a Personal Resource Questionnaire with the deposit. |
| 3. |
All applications and deposits must be received by September 15, 2006. The National High Adventure Promotion Committee will review all the applications received and will select the 2006 Contingent members based upon age and overall participation/experience in Scouting. The committee will notify those selected (and alternates) by October 1, 2006. |
| 4. |
Those selected for the 2007 Contingent will be asked to return a signed letter of confirmation, along with an additional payment of $250 by November 1, 2006 |
Please note that all participants must be 14 years of age by January 1, 2007 or completed the eighth grade prior to participation and be at least 13 years of age. Philmont will allow no exceptions. Copies of the Philmont Risk Advisory are available upon request - applicants should be aware that the Philmont Experience is very demanding, both physically and emotionally. The Philmont Risk Advisory specifies policies on chronic illness, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, weight, asthma, emotional difficulties, etc. Each participant must be prepared to carry a 35-50 pound pack over steep, rocky trails at elevations ranging from 6,500 to 12,500 feet. A regular program of physical conditioning for at least three (3) to six (6) months prior to taking the trek is essential. A longer period is recommended for those unaccustomed to physical exercise. For those Scouts and Scouters in good condition - Philmont is still an emotional challenge.
The fee for the 2007 Philmont expedition will be finalized as soon as we recieve airline prices. The fee should be in the range of $1250. This fee includes health and accident insurance coverage, a pre-trip training weekend, all ground and air transportation and expedition camp fees at Philmont. AS teh council will be making financial commitments for airline tickets and for Pilmont deposits, it is required for all participants to submit their payments on schedule.
Please note: All fees paid to Philmont are non-refundable after November 1, 2006.
Please contact the Greater Pittsburgh Council at (412) 471-2926 to request an application.
