How does this work?
Friday Night
After your registration is processed, you will be given a list of the necessary materials for the weekend (basic personal camping equipment). Upon arrival at Camp Anawanna, you will check in with your son and be assigned a tenting space and a Patrol. You likely will not be grouped with people from your home unit, so please do not plan on sharing equipment. This weekend is about learning new things and making new friends. This Patrol assignment will be your “home base” for the weekend, where you will cook dinner and plan your down time. Adults will also rotate through training in this Patrol. Settle in, meet your new friends in Scouting and get ready for a big day of training!
Please note: All BSA restrictions regarding youth protection will be observed. Youth will only tent with their guardians or each other – no tent sharing between ages or sexes. Please contact the course director with any concerns – we will attempt to make any reasonable accommodation to get you into camp.
Saturday
The bulk of Saturday is spent in training rotations. Adults will explore the many facets of Webelos leadership. Some examples include: outdoor skills, health and safety, fires and cooking, programming tips for pins...all conducted as “hands-on” courses.
While the adults are busy being better leaders, the boys will have their own rotations in a separate area of the camp. They will be offered an array of both fun (Water Balloons, Obstacle Courses) and achievement-oriented (Forrester, Geology) things to do. You will meet for meals and evening programming. After dinner, our newly trained leaders and their Scouts will have a chance to present their skills at campfire. All children will be supervised by staff and their own Youth Course Director. We expect these young men to rise to the occasion and their new standing as Webelos, but you will be easily accessible should any problems arise.
Please note: We welcome Scouts with special needs and have no issues with adaptive programming with appropriate notice, but our ratios for Webelos do not allow for singular attention. Should your son need one-on-one supervision during his day for behavioral or medical reasons, you should plan to bring a den chief or an additional adult for him. Special provisions in price can be made for this additional aide.
Sunday Morning
We will end our weekend with a “Scout’s Own” service and check-out procedures. Everyone is expected to help break camp…that’s part of training, too! You will be given a record of both Adult Certification of training as well as a list of what your Webelos Scout has earned throughout the weekend. Both you and your son will gain a GREAT jumpstart on a fun-filled Webelos den program for the coming year!
