Who can attend Wood Badge?
Wood Badge is advanced training for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders. An individual must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America and have completed basic leader training in their area of registration. Invitations are sent upon recommendation. Each course is limited to 48 participants. A deposit of $50.00 (refundable up to 30 days before the course) is required to hold a place on the course. All confirmations are made on a first-come first-served basis.
How do I become considered to receive an invitation?
Contact the Greater Pittsburgh Council at +1 412 325 7926 and advise them of your interest. If you meet the qualifications you will receive a personal letter of invitation to attend from the council.
Do I need to bring equipment?
The course provides all food, training materials, and other necessary items. You are required to bring your personal gear and have an approved Scout uniform appropriate for your registered position. More details will be discussed at the orientation meeting for each course.
Is a physical exam required?
Yes. Wood Badge is considered a Class 3 activity, and the medical form #34412 is required to be completed by your physician prior to the orientation meeting. This is Boy Scout policy.
